Another great day!

Wow! Here is a quick recap of day two...

Summer Palace: More history, beautiful sights, a large marble ship in the lake.

Pearl Market: Learned about fresh water pearls and did a little shopping.

Traditional Chinese lunch with an interesting variety of unique flavors and textures. The kids continue mastering the fine art of eating with chopsticks.

Went to an old town Beijing neighborhood and visited the home of a local family then it was off to tour the entire neighborhood via rickshaw. What a fun and exciting experience! Two boys learned the drivers go faster for an extra dollar or two.

Next we climbed to the top of a drum tower, think London's Big Ben but with large drums rather than bells. The percussionists especially enjoyed seeing the mammoth drums being played right before us.

Finished the afternoon off at a traditional tea shop. We gathered in a little tea room and sipped some mild green jasmine tea. We learned about over 1000 varieties of Chinese teas. The kids got a kick out of some of the suggestions like putting used tea leaves on your face or rolling the little empty tea cups while still warm on your cheeks for the anti-aging effects.

Dinner back at the hotel followed with an evening of relaxing around the hotel. Some kids went bowling on the lower level, some worked out in the fitness center, some played billiards, some played games in the common area and some just enjoyed hanging out. And some were checked into their rooms early and went to bed.

Tomorrow it is on to the Great Wall!
